Suburban Legends Charity Exhibition
The posters are $120 each, with all sales going to The Starlight Children’s Foundation. There were only 25 of each printed (420 x 520mm). If you’re interested in buying a copy, you can get it online. I was invited to be part of a group of 13 artists that contributed to the fund-raising letterpress poster exhibition held by The Distillery in Sydney called Suburban...

Desktop Magazine — October
Desktop is Australia’s most read monthly design culture magazine. Happy to have 3 page interview in October’s issue which focuses on my move to The Netherlands for Type Media. Thanks to Anthony Keal for taking the snaps.

Upcoming Hand to Type Book
Die Gestalten publishers will soon be releasing a lovely book called Hand to Type by Jan Middendorp, also author of Dutch Type. I’m happy to have a spread in the book. Taken from their website: Hand to Type is a stunning compilation of hand-made and digital scripts that showcases the beauty of handwritten letterforms. The book features work by some of today’s most successful and...

Blanco at The Morisawa Type Design Competition
Today the results of The Morisawa Type Design Competition were announced. I’m happy to say that Blanco, my Type and Media graduation project received Gold Prize for The Morisawa Award, and 2nd place in The People’s Choice Award, both in the Latin category. I’d like to congratulate Kunihiko Okano who also studied at Type and Media the year before me, for receiving the Gold Prize...

Strength
Since I was doing so much systematic type design work recently it was really nice to sit down for a few hours and have a go at some lettering again. This piece is for Bob’s mum, Linda.

Type and Media
Hey everyone, the Type and Media 2012 launched yesterday. Here is my project, Blanco, more details are on the website, but briefly the project is meant to be an independent type family but work as a companion to Mote by my classmate, Hrvoje Živčić.

Big 5
This little fatty is for the guys at Digital Press who are putting together a large format book containing a series of artworks by different designers, each creating a design around a numeral. It’s going to be printed on fluorescent orange stock with a dark blue ink and the black lines on overprint.

Positive Posters Exhibition
This post is a bit delayed, I kinda forgot to search from the pics after it had happened. 2 of my posters were finalists in the positive posters competition. Here are some pictures from the exhibition at 1000£ Bend awhile ago. I really enjoy the one of the two girls trying to look at the Black and White poster upside down. Looks like it was a great night, sorry I couldn’t be there and...

Reconciliation Poster
For my non-Australian readers - some background. Click here to see the aboriginal flag of Australia. It represents Indigenous Australians by depicting the sun (yellow), earth (red) and people (black). Their severe maltreatment by European settlers is one of the darkest chapters in the history of the country. In this situation, the word reconciliation (meaning ‘to meet again’), refers to an...

Posters!
Hey everyone, I’m thoroughly enjoying The Netherlands, if you’re interested in what I’ve been up to please check/follow the other blog. In non-type related news, my UNHCR music poster was among the 46 finalists in the Australia Poster Annual 2011 and is currently being exhibited at Gaffa Gallery in Sydney. You can check out the other finalist’s work here. There were over...

Hoi!
Hey everyone. I’ve opened a new blog, the link is above or here. I’m in The Netherlands studying type design and I thought I’d write about my experiences here. I will try to keep this blog solely for typo-nerd stuff and actual work. But if you’re interested, please check it out! Cheers, Dave
